Epsom was incorporated in 1727 and named for Epsom in Surrey, England. It's in Merrimack County, just west of Northwood, with about 4,800 residents (2020 Census). Concord is only 11 miles west on Route 4, which makes Epsom one of the easiest towns in the area for commuting to the capital while keeping a rural feel. Its villages include Epsom, Gossville and Short Falls.
Roads and Antique Alley
U.S. Routes 4 and 202 and NH 9 run together through town as Dover Road, and Route 28 follows the Suncook River along the west side as Suncook Valley Road. Dover Road is part of Antique Alley, the Route 4 antiques corridor that runs from Lee through Northwood and Epsom to Concord.
Hills and rivers
Epsom is a town of small mountains. The highest is Fort Mountain at about 1,413 feet, followed by McCoy Mountain and Nats Mountain. The Suncook River and the Little Suncook River drain the town. Epsom has little open water of its own, but the Northwood lakes, including Northwood Lake right at the eastern town line, are only minutes away.

Major Andrew McClary of Epsom was the highest-ranking American officer killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.
